I just don't understand...
...why Brokeback Mountain is drawing such rave reviews?
The movie was excruciatingly slow, the soundtrack almost puts me to sleep AND it was another love (ok, ok, forbidden love) story!
Worse, I just don't get it.
They were supposed to go up the mountain to tend sheep. Before the sheep had time to grow some wool and meat, Jack initiated sex.
Ennis had to work to support himself and his family so he can't see Jack so often. Jack visited prostitutes and had an affair with his neighbour, claiming his misery over missing Ennis.
Interestingly, did you notice that before they reconnected 4 years later, Jack tried to hit on some cowboy in the town bar?
*sigh* COME ON! If you really are in love with someone, you ARE supposed to suffer in the optimistic hope of a wonderful future together. You don't go around screwing other people! Jack is just plain lustful, if you ask me.
The same principles should apply regardless of sexual orientations.
But, ok, ok, the acting and cinematography was not bad.
Oh, and of course, I'm glad Ennis still has his faith and his daughters. :)

I'm straight and I have two grown children. I think Brokeback Mountain is a truly honest love story, albeit unique. Even my 19 year-old daughter thinks it's the best love story so far.
